Welcome to the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (TAREC) website. Our center is located in the City of Suffolk on Highway 58, near the village of Holland. We have research and extension programs dealing with Corn, Cotton, Peanut, Small Grains, Soybean, Vegetables, Forestry and Swine.

Our Center is an important component of the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station and an integral part of Virginia's largest land grant university, Virginia Tech. We have seven resident faculty, 16 full-time staff and employ an additional 8-12 hourly people at various times of the year. Located on 336 acres, the Center has good facilities with 30 buildings including offices, laboratories (6), engineering/maintenance shop, greenhouse, drying sheds, germplasm storage facilities, equipment sheds, media center, and an auditorium with a capacity for 100 people.

Many publications are produced by our faculty annually, including production guides and books of current information on applied research. Information on field days can be found under 'Programs.'
