The Virginia Tech Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center (MARE Center) is a 420-acre farm on Sullivans Mill Road, one mile south of Middleburg. The late Paul Mellon of Upperville, VA donated the land and a supporting grant to Virginia Tech in 1949. The Center was used for dairy and beef cattle research for 40 years, but was re-dedicated to equine research and teaching in 1992.
